Gold Rim & Ceramic Decal Technology Explained
Real Gold Decoration in Ceramic Dinnerware
Gold rim and ceramic decal decoration play an important role in the appearance and value of ceramic dinnerware.
In our factory, gold decoration is not only a visual design choice, but also a technical process that requires experience, precise control, and multiple firing stages.
Below we explain how real gold decoration and ceramic decal technology are applied in our production, based on actual manufacturing practices.
1. What Is Real Gold Decoration
Real gold decoration in ceramic dinnerware refers to the use of liquid gold material, not surface coating or electroplating.
Liquid Gold
In our factory, real gold decoration is applied using liquid gold compounds that contain genuine gold content.
After application, the gold becomes part of the ceramic surface through firing, creating a metallic finish with depth and durability.
This process is widely used for premium ceramic dinnerware and gift-oriented products.
Second Firing Process
Real gold decoration always requires a second firing.
After the main glaze firing, gold is applied and the product is fired again at a controlled temperature.
This second firing allows the gold layer to bond properly with the glazed surface, ensuring stability and long-term performance.
Why We Do Not Use Electroplating
Electroplating is sometimes used to imitate gold appearance, but it is not suitable for ceramic dinnerware intended for long-term use.
Electroplated layers sit on the surface and may peel or fade over time, especially when exposed to washing or heat.
For export-quality ceramic dinnerware, we use firing-based gold decoration instead of electroplating.

2. Hand-Painted Gold Rim Process
Many of our gold rim products are finished using hand-painted gold decoration, especially for premium and customized orders.
Brush-Applied Gold Rim
Gold rims are applied by skilled workers using fine brushes.
This manual process allows precise control over rim thickness, line smoothness, and overall appearance.
Hand-painted gold rims are especially important for plates, bowls, cups, and tea sets where uniformity and elegance are required.

Cost Considerations
Hand-applied gold decoration has higher production costs due to:
• Real gold material cost
• Skilled labor requirements
• Additional firing stages
As a result, gold rim ceramic dinnerware is positioned as a higher-value product.
Risk Factors in Production
Gold decoration involves several risk points, including:
• Uneven application
• Color variation after firing
• Deformation or defects during second firing
To minimize these risks, strict quality control and experienced workers are essential throughout the process.
3. Ceramic Decal Types
Ceramic decals are widely used to apply patterns, logos, and decorative elements to ceramic dinnerware.
In our factory, different decal technologies are selected based on design complexity and market requirements.
Screen Printing Decals
Screen printing decals are suitable for traditional patterns and consistent color designs.
They are widely used for classic tableware collections and large-volume production.

Digital Printing Decals
Digital decals allow more complex designs, color gradients, and detailed images.
This technology is often used for modern designs, customized projects, and market-specific patterns.
Gold & Platinum Decals
Gold and platinum decals combine decal technology with precious metal decoration.
These decals also require second firing to ensure proper bonding and durability.
They are commonly used for decorative borders, logos, and premium gift sets.

4. Gold vs Imitation Gold
Understanding the difference between real gold and imitation gold is important for both buyers and end users.
Appearance
Real gold decoration has a warmer tone and metallic depth that imitation gold cannot fully replicate.
After firing, real gold integrates naturally with the ceramic glaze.
Imitation gold often appears flatter and may lose brightness over time.

Cost Differences
Real gold decoration has higher material and production costs due to:
• Precious metal content
• Manual application
• Second firing requirements
Imitation gold is more cost-effective and is often used for budget-oriented products.
Usage Limitations
Real gold decorated ceramic dinnerware is usually not microwave safe and is recommended for gentle washing.
Imitation gold products may have fewer restrictions but offer lower decorative durability.
We clearly communicate usage recommendations to clients based on the chosen decoration method.
5. Real Gold Decoration for Export Markets
Real gold rim ceramic dinnerware is especially popular in gift-oriented and premium markets.
By combining ceramic decal technology with real gold decoration, we are able to supply products that meet both aesthetic and quality expectations.
Our factory supports customized gold decoration solutions based on market needs, design preferences, and budget considerations.
